I had been looking forward to this past weekend in Georgia for a few months! It’s hard to get away from Charleston in the summer, especially with the amount of weddings and events we had, so we had planned a fall trip to Georgia to see family awhile back.
We woke up early Friday morning and got on the road, so we would arrive in Jonesboro around lunchtime. Granddad and Grandmom had just picked up lunch for us, which was perfect timing. Granddad took Hunter on a tour of the grounds, and told him about his arch nemesis — the magnolia trees. It was great to see them, and I loved that Hunter could visit with them too.
Next stop was my hometown of Peachtree City for dessert and some quality time with Rollene. We took the golf cart to TCBY for fro-yo, and chatted back at her house. The weather was beauuuuutiful, so the golf cart ride was extra fun. And of course she sent us home with some homemade goodies..
Finally we headed down to mom’s house in Pine Mountain and enjoyed dinner and lots of laughs on the porch Friday night. Saturday morning Hunter played golf, while we waited for the Samuelsons to get here. Erin now lives pretty close to Pegs, in Columbus, so Erin and her mom came up to spend the day at Callaway! We took the golf cart all around the gardens, and ate at the Rose Cottage on Main Street. I think Erin and Gibb will be back for the zipline course at Callaway soon, but it was fun to show them mom’s home!
After the Samuelsons left, Mom and Hunter watched football while I went on a bike ride — I’m telling you the weather couldn’t have been better! Then Pegs got ready for Joyce’s wedding in PTC (congrats!!) and Hunter and I headed to our favorite Pine Mtn establishment, San Marcos. The epitome of not judging a book by it’s cover, San Marcos is a half garage / half Mexican restaurant with the best margaritas for miles (unless Aunt Beth is in town). With our bellies full of margs and enchiladas, we spent the rest of the night watching football and relaxing.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to stop by the Hyatts’ place on Lake Oconee on the way back to SC, but it was a great weekend with family and friends in Georgia that went by too fast! Now I’m looking forward to having Pegs visit Charleston in November and seeing the family for the GT/Clemson game or Thanksgiving.
A side note, the rocking chair from Rollene made it to Charleston safely, and now has a home in the office with my t-shirt quilt. Thanks Rollene!!
Loved reading about your weekend!
Thanks! Missed you guys, but will hopefully see you soon!
