Last Wednesday night Hunter and I enjoyed a delicious and huge meal while attending Commune‘s December dinner.  Commune is a newer concept in Charleston –> 2 local chefs make a four course pop up dinner at a local venue.  December was the fifth dinner they have hosted in Charleston, and they definitely ended the year on a high note!

The venue for December was Palmetto Brewery, the chefs were from The Grocery and Fig.  I was anticipating what they would put together for us and they didn’t disappoint.  Check out this awesome menu:

They started off with a bang; a soup with a delicious broth and interesting ingredients.  The second course included a pancetta wrapped fish, and farro –> who knew I liked farro? I didn’t, but now I do.

My favorite course was probably the 3rd course.  You actually made your own lettuce wraps, and could add in the meat, kimchi, a marinade, veggies, homemade hot sauce (and something else tasty i can’t remember) — so many toppings!

For dessert we had ice cream sundaes with roasted marshmallows, ice cream made of Palmetto’s porter beer, roasted bananas, and homemade chocolate and caramel sauces.  They were even nut-allergy friendly, and I got my own (huge) bowl of ice cream, sans pecans!

We enjoyed our dinner with Jake and Lexie, and our new friends sitting next to us (hence the Commune name).  Jake and Lexie went to dinner in October and loved it so much, they wanted to come again with us in December — it’s seriously that good.

I would have never ordered some of these dishes in a restaurant (and didn’t know what some of them ever were), so was happy to step out of my comfort zone and enjoy high quality food!

I think I can speak for all of us that we are looking forward to going again in 2015!  Who wants to join?
