A lot of my friends have gotten spiralizers and fallen in love with the food options they provide, so it was only a matter of time before I jumped on the bandwagon and got one myself.  It finally came in town and I was so excited to make something.  I decided to start small, with zucchini noodles (zoodles) and Grandmom’s spaghetti sauce, to figure everything out, plus it’s a perfect Sunday night dinner.

Zoodles & Meat Sauce

Ingredients:zoodles 02

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3, 8oz cans tomato sauce
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1/3 C water
  • 1 T worcester sauce
  • 1 1/2 t salt
  • Dash of pepper
  • 4 Zucchinis

Start by making the sauce –> Brown the ground beef and drain the fat.  Then mix all the ingredients, except for the zucchini, in a big pot.  Cover and simmer for at least an hour, stirring occasionally.

When you’re almost ready to eat, make the zoodles!  I brought out the spiralizer, put in the zucchini, and started turning the handle.  I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty cool seeing the long zoodles spiral out.

Cook the raw zoodles in a pan for a few minutes, and then plate them.  You may want to pat them dry if they seem a little watery (I didn’t do this, but needed to).  Then just top them with sauce and parmesan, and serve!

Results: Hunter gave them two thumbs up and I loved them too!  We both ate big servings of spaghetti, but didn’t feel too full like we normally do with regular pasta.

I’m happy with the first meal made by the spiralizer, and can’t wait to use it again.  If you see any good recipes, please send them my way!
