Growing up I was a picky eater.. shocking right? hahaha. When it came to vegetables, I loved broccoli and green beans though and always enjoyed the green beans from my grandparents’ garden. When I was going to college I copied some of my favorite recipes on note cards to take with me and my Grandmom’s green beans recipe was one of them.
Grandmom’s Green Beans
Ingredients:
- 1/4 c oil
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 T onion
- 1 1/2 lb green beans
- 1/4 c boiling water
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp salt
Break the green beans into smaller pieces if you like – I always break off the ends and broke the longer ones in half by habit. Heat oil and garlic over medium heat in a pan. Add the onion and cook until tender. Add beans, water, salt and basil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes until tender. Serve hot!
I always think of my Grandmom when I make these and it’s a plus that Hunter loves them and will ask for them too. Find more of our family recipes here.
