It was about time for another dining room update since the last one was in October! We haven’t done much in a DIY sense, but we have made it more functional and our own in the last few months.

Our Christmas present to each other this year was art, and we bought this beautiful oyster painting from a local friend, the Gallavantor, in November. I love how the golf leaf picks up the sun throughout the day and depending on the angle, it looks like it’s shining!

We also started buying chairs, woohoo! Thanks to a certain friend’s designer advice, we decided on doing 2 deep blue chairs on the end, and 6 more neutral chairs in the middle.

This has been the hardest part of the room for us to pick out, but I found the end chairs one afternoon when looking for a tall storage piece for the laundry room (you never find what you’re actually looking for, right?).

The last exciting update has been plantation shutters! We weren’t planning on replacing the blinds around the house for a little while, but we were recommended a great company and a price we couldn’t say no to!

My only requirement was to be able to have the bottom half closed for privacy and top half open for natural light. In the dining room, they’ll always be pretty open to let that light in though.

Doesn’t the room seem more “finished” now? It’s amazing what a few updates can do.

The next step is to decide on the chairs for the rest of the table. Then we’ll wait for the rest of the dining room demo (scraping ceilings, paint, trim, etc) to happen when we renovate the kitchen.

  • Love what you’ve done. Is that Peg’s cat? 🙂 We may be coming to Charleston in late September. We have friends who have invited us. Check out their home: 107-1/2 Tradd St. I am guessing at the house number. I hear it’s very nice! They actually live across the street from us in Sarasota, but are very wealthy and have homes in CO, a Caribbean Island, an apartment in NYC, and this lovely home in Charleston.

    • It’s actually our kitty, Cleo! They’re both calicos though (Cali is bigger 😂).

You’ll have to let us know when you’re here and we can meet for a meal! Tradd has beautiful homes and I love walk-in around those streets downtown and looking at window boxes
