Framed First Home Key

I’ve wanted to do something special to commemorate our first house, and make something that we could bring with us to future houses and remember the fun at 2433.  Finally I decided to frame a house key with a map of where we live!

If you ever need a cool map, I highly recommend using Stamen.  They have a few different maps to choose from, but their watercolor ones are just awesome, and FREE.  Just type in the location, choose the area you want and download the image.  I’ve even printed a 8.5×11 version of downtown Charleston that’s framed in my gallery wall.

For this quick project I made a Mt. Pleasant watercolor map, shrunk it to 4×6 size, printed it, taped a house key over our address and framed it — 5 minutes and I was done!

I might go back and add the address on the top or bottom, but I’m happy with the simplicity for now.  Plus I now have a go-to housewarming gift, paired with wine of course… fair warning for all of my friends in the house market!
